Things You Should NEVER Power Wash
A pressure washer is a fantastic tool for both DIY and professional cleaning duties for the exterior of your home. There are light-duty models that are perfect for cleaning decks, vehicles, and siding, while heavier-duty models can remove the nastiest of stains from your garage floors and driveways. But every homeowner that is looking to use a power washer for cleaning must answer this question: electric or gas? Here is a closer look at Electric vs. Gas pressure washer from Harford Powerwashing, an elite pressure washing company in Harford County, Maryland
Electric vs Gas Pressure Washer
Like any tool that you use, it’s important to figure out which option works best for you. Pressure washers come in a wide range of models that have different features and levels of performance. Gas powered pressure washers are typically more powerful than electric pressure washers. Water pressure generated from the pump is measured in pounds per square inch (psi). This metric, combined with the gallons per minute (gpm), is used to determine the performance of your pressure washer.
Most gas pressure washers operate at a PSI of around 2,500-4,000 psi with a GPM of 2.5-4.0. There are also gas pressure washers that are capable of exceeding 4,000 psi. Electric pressure washers, on the other hand, operate at a PSI of between 1,500-3,000 with 1.5-2.5 gpm. For reference, a fire hose operates between 50-200 psi, but up to 50 gpm.
Higher PSI requires more skill
While it could definitely be considered a positive that gas pressure washers are capable of a much higher psi than electric pressure washers, it’s important to note that higher psi requires a much higher skill level. This means that depending on your experience with pressure washers, you may find it better to hire a professional for the job. A high pressure stream of water can cause injury. Also, with gas pressure washers, the water exhausts can cause burns, while the motors on both gas AND electric pressure washers can do the same.
Gas Washers are more durable
In terms of durability, gas pressure washers and electric pressure washers are very different. Gas pressure washers have a reputation for lasting longer, due in part to their metal pumps and easily replaceable/maintainable components. Electric pressure washers are much more difficult to repair, meaning they will most likely not last as long.
